Northern Lights / Luces del Norte

Hello once again,

This time I want to strongly recommend you the first novel of the trilogy "His Dark Materials" by Phillip Pullman. Many of you have listened about the novel because recently was adapted for making a movie. The movie's title was "The Golden Compass" and it was starring by Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Dakota Blue Richards. "Nothern Lights" is the original title of the first chapter from this trilogy of books. Its main character is Lyra Belacqua, a young girl who is 11 years old at the begginig of the story. She lives in a parallel world where people's somekind of soul is external and took the form of an animal. She is brave and used to live pacifically in the Jordan College, Oxford, until strange things happened arond the college. Children were disapearing and it was rummored they were kidnapped by a group called "The Gobblers". Her best friend, Roger, is kiddnaped while she is involved in a research for the mysterious meaning of a substance called "The Dust", which is the obsession of her uncle Lord Asriel. She decides to embark herself in a some kind of adventure with an also mysterious and dangerous woman, Mrs. Marisa Coulter. She will learn about the identity of the Gobblers and the true meaning of The Dust while she will also encounter new friends and a "love", the armored bear Iorek Byrnison, all with the help of a strange device called alethiometer. She will be betrayed by someone who she would never have guessed and by the worst way. Enjoy the reading and if you want to know the end which is different from the movie's... Let me know!

Esta vez quiero recomendarles ampliamente la primera novela de la trilogía "La materia oscura" de Phillip Pullman. Muchos de ustedes han escuchado acerca de la novela porque recientemente fue adaptada para la realización de una película. El titulo de la película es "La Brújula Dorada" y fue protagonizada por Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig y Dakota Blue Richards. "Luces del Norte" es el título original del primer capítulo de esta trilogía de libros. Su protagonista es Lyra Belacqua, una jovial niña que tiene 11 años al principio de la historia. Vive en un mundo paralelo donde algo así como el alma de las personas es externo a ellas y toma la forma de un animal. Lyra era valiente y solía vivir pacificamente en el Colegio Jordan, Oxford, hasta que cosas extrañas pasaron alrededor del colegio. Niños que desaparecían y se rumoraba eran raptados por un grupo apodado "Los Zampones". Su mejor amigo, Roger, es raptado mientras se involucra con una investigación acerca del significado de una sustancia misteriosa nombrada como "El Polvo", que es la obsesión de su tío Lord Asriel. Lyra se embarca en un tipo de aventura con una tambien misteriosa y peligrosa mujer, La Señora Marisa Coulter. Lyra aprenderá la identidad de los Zampones y el verdadero significado del Polvo, mientras que tambien encontrará nuevos amigos y un "amor", el oso acorazado Iorek Byrnison, todo con la ayuda de un extraño aparato llamado aletiómetro. Será traicionada por alguien que nunca hubiera adivinado y de la peor forma posible. Disfruten la lectura y si quieren saber el final que es diferente de la película... ¡Háganmelo saber!

Sounds interesting, but not my type of read. I enjoy reading about history or current issues. The fantasy that is often used in mystery novels more than often turns me off, becuase of its unrealistic usage.
